Tips to finding Black Friday Jobs
As the holiday season draws near, there are several companies that will be looking to hire temporary help. Many people refer to these seasonal positions as Black Friday Jobs. Sometimes there are perks that come along with these seasonal positions such as discounts in retail locations, the potential to be hired as a year round employee, and additional skills that can be added to a resume. Even though the economy is down and there are not as many seasonal positions as there once were there are some things that you can do to increase your chances of finding employment during the holiday season.
One of the first things that a job seeker can do to increase their chances of finding the job for the holidays is to begin his or her search early. Many times the companies will conduct hiring interviews in the month of October. They may host large job fairs and try to hire people as quickly as possible to insure they will be trained to meet their business needs. It may prove to be beneficial to spend some time in September researching the companies that are of most interest and polishing up the resume to send to companies that the job seeker has a interest in. It never hurts to send the resume or complete the application early so that the company will have it on file when they begin calling applicants.
Keeping your options open will also increase your chances of finding a job. Many times restaurants and other businesses in the service industry will hire additional staff to handle their increased business during this time of year. Packing and shipping stores are sometimes overlooked during job searches, however they do have more business during this time of year and may have positions that are open.
Being able to work flexible hours can also be of benefit as well. The whole reason that companies hire temporary help is to have the employees available to meet customer demands. Some of the hours that they may most need people are evenings and weekends. In some situations they may only be hiring on a part time basis, however business needs can change and you could end up with full time hours.
At the end of the season you may be given an exit interview. This is a great chance to sit down with the hiring managers and discuss what you liked about your position. You can use this time to let them know if you would like to be considered for regular employment if positions open. You can also find out the policies on being rehired for the next holiday season. It is important to leave on a positive note as you may need to use the company you worked for as a job reference in the future.

With the holidays fast approaching the stress for many is mounting. The December holidays, like most holidays, is not an inexpensive time of year. There are presents to get for people, parties to attend, and vacations to take. The holidays can be a grand expense. For many the only way to combat the rising cost of the season is to get a part-time job.
Seasonal employment, regardless of the time of year, can provide relief to many, but it’s not always easy to get. The market is flush with many who need a little relief as well as college students looking to earn cash for their next semester. So it’s important to get every advantage you can when applying for seasonal work. Here are some tips and tricks to landing that much needed seasonal employment.
In seasonal employment, it is often that the early bird gets the worm. Being the first to turn in your resume and your application will give you a leg up on everyone else in the field. Most employers looking for short-term help are in a bind and are looking for someone to help them out quickly. Waiting too long can put you at the bottom of a pile of qualified applicants. Making sure you get in early is paramount to finding employment.
Employers who are in search of seasonal help are often in need of someone who can work odd hours or perform unusual or unpopular tasks. Most companies have full-time employees that work the nine to five shifts and perform register work or do bookkeeping acitivies. Your application should reflect the fact that you are willing to work late at night or do tasks that consist of more manual labor. Employers will look to applicants who are willing to do the things there full-time employees are not willing to do or simply cannot do.
Making yourself available for work beyond the season is a great way to get noticed by a company that is looking to hire. There are a lot of companies that would like the option of hiring on their seasonal staff if there is a need or if the work performance warrants a continued position. Giving a prospective employer that option, without making it a demand, is almost certain to get you in for an interview. Being able to provide long-term assistance will put you ahead of those who only want a couple of months and have no flexibility for further work.
Last but not least is experience. As stated earlier, employers are looking for someone who can hit the ground running; letting them know you understand the job will help you land that job over someone who has no prior experience. Having prior experience working a register will help get you a retail job, or having a strong knowledge of computers will help you get a job at the electronics store even if you don’t have retail experience. The name of the game is making yourself valuable. Seasonal work is not always easy to find, but with these helpful hints you’ll have a leg up on the other applicants.

The spookiest holiday of the year, Halloween is also a time to make a bit of extra cash. In a rough economy, there is always room for hiring at the various Halloween-specific events around town. So anyone who needs a part-time job that’s not scheduled to last for more than a couple of weeks will be thrilled with the options that fall brings.
Before Halloween, those living in more rural areas where hay rides or corn mazes might be a popular weekend activity can find work locally. Whether it’s working at a orchard while people pick their own apples, being one of the creepy creatures in a corn maze, or simply lending an extra hand during a town Halloween party, there are plenty of jobs out there. And after you land one Halloween gig, it might be easier to pick up some extra work in future years.
By far, the biggest moneymaker around Halloween is work in any of the various haunted houses that start popping up around the country. While some might have long-standing casts, chances are that there is a need for some extra help. Be sure to establish when you will be paid, and check around among friends to see if anyone has previous work experience with your particular outfit. Because these things can sometimes come and go, it’s important to make sure that you are going to get paid. Be assertive and choose a reliable employer is an important step in joining the workforce.
Those outgoing people who enjoy being the center of attention will find that acting as ghost tour guides might be a perfect fit, too. Many companies that provide ghost tours year-round end up adding staff to handle the demand around the Halloween season. If you’re good at memorizing lines and enjoy talking to groups of people, this is a great seasonal position. Best of all, there are often tips involved with ghost tour guiding, and that means a bit of extra income in addition to an hourly salary.
More reserved or shy people might prefer dressing up as monsters or ghosts and hiding in the haunted house itself, a job that involves scaring people with restraint. If you’re a bit of a class clown, this might not be the best position for you if you cannot exercise proper judgment. Scaring teens is one thing, but terrifying youngsters might get you fired. Be sure to pay close attention to your manager’s instructions, and give the performance that is deigned appropriate.
Halloween is also a time when retail outlets sometimes add a bit of extra help. Whether it’s finding that local costume rental store or simply checking out whether or not various mall spots are hiring, doing a bit of research at the beginning of October can result in a job by the end of the month.
