|The Catholic Youth Organization of the Archdiocese of Seattle is currently seeking qualified staff for our residential outdoor environmental education program at Camp Hamilton in Monroe, Washington. Camp Hamilton is comprised of 570 acres of forest, wetlands and an 80 acre lake. CYO Environmental Education proves a unique ministry to Catholic middle school students through hands-on experiential learning activities, forest and wetland hikes, and community building activities. Lessons are science based; our goal is to provide an extension of a classroom in an outdoor setting, allowing students to discover a sense of self, and appreciation of others. Staff members gain valuable experience planning and teaching lessons, learning different techniques of behavioral management and child development skills.Responsibilities of a teacher naturalist:- Lead a day group of 12-15 students and teach lessons on forest, water and wildlife ecology. Includes teaching a lesson on the water in canoes.- Participate in or assist in leading evening programs, but not responsible for overnight supervision of students.- Lead faith formation activities for students- Assist with other camp operations, including cleaning, kitchen work, and maintenance projects.Qualifications:- At least 18 years old.- Experience working with children, either informal or formal setting. - Enthusiasm for working with middle school students.- Completed two years college level courses or related work experience preferred.- CPR and First Aid certified (or willing to obtain before work).- Comfortable working in a Catholic environment, and the ability to lead and/or engage students in faith based activities and prayers. Applicants do not have to be Catholic, or know everything there is about the Church, they just need to be willing to work within a faith based program!- Desire to promote environmental stewardship.This position is seasonal, beginning with staff training in March 25 and ending on June 6. Most of our sessions are 4 days in length and run Tuesday Friday. We pay our staff a starting rate of $2500 for the season, which works out to be about $227 for a 4 day work week. A calendar with more details can be sent to applicants. Room and board on-site is provided at no additional cost for the duration of the season. Staff typically share a cabin with 3-4 other staff members of the same gender. The staff cabins are a short walk from the main dining hall, which is equipped with Wi-Fi. Staff can stay on the weekends or choose to explore everything Washington has to offer Mt.
