If you are looking to build your resume or just get some work experience under your belt, an internship can be a great way to do this. Internships can be either paid or unpaid. There are a lot more unpaid internships out there than paid internships, so if you do not need the money and just want the work experience, it will be easier to find something if you are willing to accept an unpaid position. Often, unpaid internships often lead to paid positions down the road, so investing time up front can really pay off in the end.

No matter what field you are interested in, you should be able to find an internship related to that field. There are also a number of different types of internships to choose from.

Co ops offer students the opportunity to get academic credit for their internship experience and are usually directly related to what you are studying in school.

Apprenticeships give students who know what they want to do the opportunity to gain experience in their desired field and receive guidance from a master of a high skilled trade.

Field experience internships usually have sociology or science students doing research or collecting data related to their area of study.

Serving learning internships let students give back to the community while they gain real world work experience.

Externships are usually short term internships in which students work closely with a mentor.
